Basic Cleaning: Gentle Care with Warm Water and a Soft Cloth

Over time, mahjong tiles accumulate fingerprints, dust, and even grease. Don't rush to scrub them with a hard brush! Prepare a basin of warm water (around 30℃) (don't use hot water! High temperatures will cause the tile patterns to peel off), add 2 drops of neutral detergent, and stir well. Dampen a soft cotton cloth with the water and wring it until semi-dry. Gently wipe the tiles along their texture, paying special attention to cleaning edges, crevices, and textured areas. After wiping, blot dry with a clean cloth and let them air dry. This method is suitable for daily cleaning, removing 90% of surface stains and maintaining the tiles' shine.

Stubborn Stains: Small Tools Do the trick!

What if you encounter chewing gum residue, marker marks, or years of stubborn grease? Don't panic! To remove chewing gum, apply ice for 5 minutes to harden it, then gently scrape it off with a plastic scraper (don't use metal!). To remove marker pen ink, apply a small amount of alcohol (75% concentration is best) to a cotton swab, wait 10 seconds, and then wipe it off. To remove grease, use an old toothbrush with a small amount of toothpaste (choose white toothpaste containing abrasives) to gently brush in circular motions, and finally wipe clean with a damp cloth. These methods can target stubborn stains, but note: each cleaner should only be used for the corresponding stain; do not mix them!

Daily Maintenance: Moisture and Sun Protection are Key

Cleaning is just a means; maintenance is the goal! Mahjong tiles are most vulnerable to moisture and direct sunlight: moisture can cause the tiles to mold and deform, while direct sunlight will cause the plastic tiles to age and become brittle. When not in use, it is recommended to store them in a storage box with ventilation holes and add a few packets of food desiccant. If not used for a long time, take them out and air them for 1 hour every 3 months (do not expose to direct sunlight!). In addition, avoid eating on the cards while playing and use coasters when drinking beverages. These small habits can keep the cards clean and reduce the frequency of cleaning.
